White Fillings in Wilmslow

Tooth-coloured fillings that repair decay or damage and blend in with the teeth around them. From £175 per surface.

Croft Dental at 64 Manchester Road in Wilmslow places tooth-coloured composite fillings to repair decay, chips and worn or failing fillings. Fillings start from £175 per surface and are carried out under local anaesthetic, with sedation available from £350. Old fillings are replaced where there is a clinical reason, and every option is explained and costed in writing before treatment. New patient examinations are £40 including x-rays.

So, does a small hole really need filling?

dental check up the croft dental wilmslow

Usually, yes, and sooner is cheaper.

Decay doesn’t repair itself once it has broken through the enamel. It moves into the softer layer underneath, where it spreads faster, and eventually reaches the nerve. A small filling now can turn into root canal treatment or a crown a couple of years later.

Not every mark needs drilling, though.

Very early decay, the kind that shows as a chalky white patch, can often be stopped with fluoride and better cleaning. Part of a proper examination is telling the two apart and being straight with you about which one you have.

If you have a filling that’s sensitive, cracked or catching your tongue, that’s worth a look too. Fillings don’t last forever, and they’re easier to replace before they fail than after.

What happens when you have a filling

  • Numbing the tooth: local anaesthetic first, so you feel pressure rather than pain. If needles worry you, say so and we’ll take it slowly.
  • Removing the decay: the damaged part of the tooth is cleaned away, keeping as much healthy tooth as possible.
  • Matching the shade: the composite is chosen to match your own tooth, so the filling is hard to spot.
  • Building it up in layers: each layer is set hard with a curing light, then shaped so your bite feels normal.
  • Checking your bite: we check how your teeth meet and adjust until it feels right.
  • Afterwards: the filling is hard straight away. Your lip and cheek stay numb for a couple of hours, so take care with hot drinks until the feeling comes back.

Filling or crown?

  • When a filling is right

For small to medium cavities, chips and worn edges. Usually placed in a single visit and priced by the number of tooth surfaces involved.

  • When a filling isn’t enough

If a large part of the tooth has gone, a big filling can leave the remaining walls thin and likely to crack. In those cases a crown holds the tooth together and protects what’s left.

  • After root canal treatment

Back teeth that have had root canal treatment become more brittle. They usually need a crown rather than a filling to last.

We’ll tell you which one your tooth needs and why, before anything is done.

Replacing old fillings

  • Fillings that are cracked, leaking or have decay underneath.
  • Fillings that have worn down or broken away at the edges.
  • Fillings you’d like to look more natural, discussed openly as a cosmetic choice.

A filling that’s sound and doing its job doesn’t need replacing just because it’s old. We’ll tell you honestly which ones need attention and which can be left alone.

Looking after your fillings

Brush twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste, clean between your teeth, and keep sugary snacks to mealtimes. Regular check ups and hygiene appointments catch problems around the edges of fillings while they’re still small.

If you grind your teeth, a night guard takes the strain off them while you sleep.

The cost of a filling depends on how many surfaces of the tooth it covers. You’ll get a written estimate before we start.

If you attend regularly, our practice plan includes 10% off general treatment.

Where to find us

Croft Dental sits at 64 Manchester Road, on the Handforth side of Wilmslow town centre. Coming up from The Carrs, we are north east along Manchester Road. If you reach Handforth Dean, you have gone too far.

We are around ten minutes on foot from Wilmslow station, five minutes from Handforth, and roughly ten minutes from Alderley Edge up the A34.

Patients register with us from Alderley Edge, Handforth, Styal, Prestbury, Mottram St Andrew, Knutsford, Macclesfield, Poynton, Mobberley, Bramhall and Cheadle.

For routine care, proximity genuinely matters. A practice you can get to easily is a practice you will actually attend, and over twenty years that is worth considerably more than any individual treatment. If you have recently moved to the area, registering with a dentist is one of the more easily forgotten jobs on the list. It takes a phone call.

Spread the cost of treatment with finance or dental plan

We offer finance on larger treatment plans through Tabeo so the cost can be spread across monthly payments. Interest-free options are available with no arrangement fees or hidden charges.

For routine examinations and hygiene appointments, our practice plan is generally the more sensible route, spreading the cost across fixed monthly payments instead.

Register with Croft Dental as a New Patients

We warmly welcome new patients to our practice. If it’s been a while since your last visit, if dental visits make you feel anxious, if you’ve recently moved to Wilmslow, or if you’re simply seeking a team that truly listens to your concerns, you’ll find a supportive and gentle environment here with us.

During your first appointment, we take the time to conduct a complete evaluation of your teeth, gums, and overall oral health. We will listen carefully to your goals, answer any questions, and collaboratively create a treatment plan tailored specifically to you.

Frequently asked questions

White fillings at Croft Dental start from £175 per surface. The final cost depends on how many surfaces of the tooth are involved, and you'll get a written estimate before treatment.

The tooth is numbed with local anaesthetic first, so most patients feel pressure and vibration rather than pain. If you're anxious, tell us and we'll take it slowly. Sedation is also available from £350.

Looked after well, many composite fillings last for years. How long one lasts depends on its size, where it is in the mouth, and habits such as grinding.

Yes, where there's a reason to. A failing amalgam filling can be replaced with a tooth-coloured one. If an old filling is sound, we'll talk through whether replacing it is worth it for you.

Composite fillings are hard as soon as they're placed. It's best to wait until the numbness wears off so you don't bite your lip or cheek.

Only if too much of the tooth has gone for a filling to hold up. In that case a porcelain crown, from £750, protects the tooth from cracking. We'll explain which you need and why.

New patients start with an examination, which is £40 including x-rays. If you need a filling, it can usually be booked straight after.
