Night Guards and Mouthguards in Wilmslow

Custom made guards that protect your teeth from grinding at night or a knock on the pitch. Night guards £150, sports mouthguards from £80.

Croft Dental at 64 Manchester Road in Wilmslow makes custom fitted night guards for teeth grinding and clenching at £150, and sports mouthguards at £80 in a single colour or £100 in multiple colours. Each guard is made from an impression or scan of your own teeth, so it fits closely and stays in place. Signs of grinding are checked at every routine examination, and new patient examinations are £40 including x-rays.

So, are you grinding your teeth at night?

A lot of people are, and have no idea.

Grinding and clenching mostly happen in your sleep, so the first clue is often something else. A partner mentions the noise. You wake with a dull ache in your jaw or temples. Your teeth feel tender, or more sensitive than they used to.

We often spot it before you do. Flattened edges, small chips, fine cracks and worn fillings all tell the story, and we look for them at every check up.

Left alone, grinding wears teeth down slowly and steadily over years. It can crack teeth and break fillings, crowns and bonding.

A night guard won’t stop the habit, but it takes the damage instead of your teeth.

Signs you might be grinding

  • Morning aches: a sore jaw, headache or aching temples when you wake up.
  • Flatter teeth: edges that look shorter, flatter or more even than they used to.
  • Repeated breakages: chips, cracks or fillings that keep coming away.
  • Sensitivity: teeth that react to hot and cold without an obvious cause.
  • A tired jaw: clicking, stiffness or tiredness around the jaw joint.
  • Somebody tells you: a partner hearing you grind at night is one of the most reliable signs there is.

How a night guard works

  • Made to fit you

We take an impression or scan of your teeth and the guard is made to fit them closely. It’s thin enough to sleep in comfortably and stays in place without you having to bite on it.

  • What it protects

The guard sits between your upper and lower teeth, so the grinding happens against the guard rather than your enamel, fillings or crowns.

  • Protecting dental work

If you’ve had composite bonding, veneers or crowns and you grind, a night guard is one of the best ways to make them last.

  • Looking after it

Rinse and brush it gently each morning, let it dry, and keep it in its case. Bring it along to your check ups so we can check it for wear.

Sports mouthguards

Contact sport and front teeth don’t mix well. Rugby, hockey, boxing, martial arts and lacrosse all carry a real risk of a knocked or broken tooth.

  • A custom guard fits closely, so it’s easier to breathe and talk in, and players are more likely to keep it in.
  • Single colour guards are £80 and multi colour guards are £100.
  • Children’s mouths change as they grow, so their guards may need remaking as new teeth come through. We’ll check the fit at their check ups.

When grinding needs more than a guard

If grinding has already worn your teeth down, a guard protects what’s left but doesn’t rebuild it. Worn teeth can be restored with bonding or crowns once the grinding is under control.

We’ll talk you through the options at your examination, starting with the simplest.

Where to find us

Croft Dental sits at 64 Manchester Road, on the Handforth side of Wilmslow town centre. Coming up from The Carrs, we are north east along Manchester Road. If you reach Handforth Dean, you have gone too far.

We are around ten minutes on foot from Wilmslow station, five minutes from Handforth, and roughly ten minutes from Alderley Edge up the A34.

Patients register with us from Alderley Edge, Handforth, Styal, Prestbury, Mottram St Andrew, Knutsford, Macclesfield, Poynton, Mobberley, Bramhall and Cheadle.

For routine care, proximity genuinely matters. A practice you can get to easily is a practice you will actually attend, and over twenty years that is worth considerably more than any individual treatment. If you have recently moved to the area, registering with a dentist is one of the more easily forgotten jobs on the list. It takes a phone call.

Spread the cost of treatment with finance or dental plan

We offer finance on larger treatment plans through Tabeo so the cost can be spread across monthly payments. Interest-free options are available with no arrangement fees or hidden charges.

For routine examinations and hygiene appointments, our practice plan is generally the more sensible route, spreading the cost across fixed monthly payments instead.

Register with Croft Dental as a New Patients

We warmly welcome new patients to our practice. If it’s been a while since your last visit, if dental visits make you feel anxious, if you’ve recently moved to Wilmslow, or if you’re simply seeking a team that truly listens to your concerns, you’ll find a supportive and gentle environment here with us.

During your first appointment, we take the time to conduct a complete evaluation of your teeth, gums, and overall oral health. We will listen carefully to your goals, answer any questions, and collaboratively create a treatment plan tailored specifically to you.
