DENTAL HYGIENE

Our hygienists work closely with our dental team at The Croft Dental & Implant Practice to ensure that all of our patients have a healthy smile.

Hygienist appointments are essential for people of all ages, as they play a crucial role in oral health. They will show you how to properly care for your teeth and gums at home, with a focus on preventative dental health and treating gum disease. If you have sensitive teeth, foul breath, or discoloured teeth, we can assist.

Tooth Brushing

Brushing your teeth properly can help you avoid cavities and gum disease, which account for at least one-third of all adult tooth loss. It’s also crucial to start teaching youngsters proper brushing at an early age, as this is a skill they’ll be able to carry into adulthood.

If you’re not sure how to clean your teeth properly, talk to your dental hygienist — we’re more than happy to help you.

Gum Disease

Gum disease is one of the most prevalent dental issues people face and it can strike at any age, progressing slowly and painlessly without being noticed.

Your dentist will examine you for any signs of gum disease and recommend treatment if necessary. Gum disease may almost always be avoided by practicing good dental hygiene and visiting your dentist on a regular basis.

Sensitive Teeth

Tooth sensitivity happens when the dentin, the layer under the enamel, is exposed. This lets hot, cold, or sweet foods reach your tooth’s nerve, causing pain.

The good news is that sensitive teeth can be managed in a variety of ways.

  • Brush, floss, and rinse your teeth on a regular basis
  • Brush around the gum line with a soft-bristled toothbrush, being careful not to remove gum tissue
  • Stay away from very acidic meals and beverages
  • Fluoridated dental products should be used.
  • The use of a fluoride mouth rinse on a daily basis can help to reduce sensitivity.
  • If you grind your teeth at sleep, talk to your dentist about getting a mouth guard.

Talk to your dentist if the problem persists. They’d be able to suggest the best treatment for you.

Bad Breath

Breath odour can be caused by a variety of factors, including consuming garlic and onions, smoking and drinking coffee.

You can maintain good oral health by brushing your teeth (and tongue) twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and visiting your dentist regularly.

If breath odour is a concern, please visit your dentist for a consultation. They will be able to help you identify what causes it and devise a treatment plan that will help.

Stain Removal

Tooth colour varies with every individual. It can get darker as we age.

Staining chemicals including coffee, tea, carbonated drinks, and smoking can also impact the color of your teeth. You may avoid new stains by avoiding stain-causing foods and beverages and brushing your teeth right after eating.

The Croft Dental and Implant Practice also offers teeth whitening treatments if you want to brighten your smile.
